CM Naidu to kick-start airport project in Nellore today

The sleepy village Damavaram in the SRSP Nellore district will soon figure in the aviation map with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu setting in motion the prestigious greenfield airport project at the village near Dagadarthi on Friday.

The Chief Minister will unveil a pylon at the project site and set milestones for its speedy completion holding parleys with the concessionaire. The Nellore International Airport Private Limited(NIAL) will develop the airport along with a cargo hub near Dagadarthi, about 25 km from Nellore, at ₹368 crore in the Kavali division in about a year’s time from the zero date.

The district administration has identified 1,379.71 acres and handed over so far 1,061 acres to the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited after paying ₹82.25 crore to the displaced farmers.

The project will play a pivotal role in aiding the industrial growth in the southern node of the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor, say NIAL sources. It will have capacity to handle up to 2 million passengers a year and 55,000 tonnes of cargo. It will also provide logistics support to upcoming industries in the Kandukur division of the neighbouring Prakasam district. The Civil Aviation Ministry has already given clearance for the project.

The Chief Minister will also inaugurate a high-level bridge across Chippaleruvagu in Juvvaladinne and unveil the statue of Potti Sriramulu there before taking part in the “Janmabhoomi Maavooru” programme at Bagole village.
