CPI Demands to Cancel Polls, JC In Trouble

Article
Telugu Desam Party MP J.C. Diwakar Reddy who is known for his outspokenness on issues has landed himself in trouble for his comments on poll spending by legislators in the state. His comments have got flak from Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Ramakrishna who appealed to AP chief electoral officer (CEO) G.K. Dwivedi to cancel the Parliamentary polls held for Anantapur Lok Sabha constituency and Tadipatri Assembly constituency.

Diwakar Reddy's statement saying that voters are demanding money and that candidates have spent crores in AP elections, have not gone down well with many leaders. Taking these remarks seriously, the CPI approached the Election Commission and said that the poll panel should consider Diwakar Reddy's comments as suo-moto and cancel the polls held in AP.

Speaking to the media on Diwakar Reddy's comments, he said that the MP himself admitted to spending Rs. 50 crore towards his son, who contested the 2019 polls. 'He said they had given Rs. 2,000 to each voter. Bribing the voters is against the election code,' the CPI leader reminded. He fumed at Diwakar Reddy and N. Chandrababu Naidu for degrading the democratic system in the country for their vested interests.
