Ajay Devgn on his biggest Hichki: People thought I was not hero material

Ajay Devgn may be one the biggest superstars of Bollywood today, but there was a time where he was written off. The actor opened up to Rani Mukerji about his 'Hichki' moment, which came right before the release of his debut film, Phool Aur Kaante, which hit the theatres in 1991.

"Before my first film, there was a buzz in the industry that 'he's a very ordinary-looking guy', 'he's not hero material', 'he will not make it'. Main sunta tha woh sab, but it never bothered me," Ajay said.

But Phool Aur Kaante released and went on to become a success at the box office, and Ajay has never looked back since. "Hichki ki parwaah mat karo, usko apna inspiration banao," he advised.

Rani plays a teacher suffering from Tourette syndrome in Siddharth P Malhotra's Hichki. The film is slated to release this Friday.

Meanwhile, Ajay is currently basking in the success of his latest release, Raj Kumar Gupta's Raid, which has already earned Rs 41.01 crore at the box office in its opening weekend.

The actor plays an income-tax officer who conducts a raid on the house of an influential politician, after receiving an anonymous tip that he has black money to the tune of Rs 420 crore stashed away illegally.
