Deepika Padukone: Nothing can stop the release of Padmavati

Deepika Padukone: Nothing can stop the release of Padmavati
Padmavati has always been a controversial project. Constant support from the film fraternity, however, has been seen. Deepika Padukone, who plays the title role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Padmavati” gave out an interview to an international news channel and said, “It’s amusing actually sometimes when I look at it and I actually look at this as a moment for all of us to be celebrating this woman’s life. To celebrate everything she stood for, to celebrate everything that she believed in, to celebrate Rajput culture and heritage. This is a time for us to celebrate really.” Deepika further added that, “Nothing can stop the release of this film,” even as over 50 activists of Rajput Karni Sena vandalised a cinema hall and a mall in Kota for screening the film’s trailer.

And while Padmavati’s violent row intensifies, its now time for Mahira Khan’s Verna. This film depicts the struggle of a rape victim and is facing some problems with its release in Pakistan. While speaking to IMAGES, CBFC Chairman of Pakistan, Mobashir Hasan, said that the final decision is withheld and yet to be decided.

When asked about the ban on Mahira Khan’s film, Verna, and whether people are too quick to judge films, Deepika said, “Yes, it’s sad that a small section of people don’t understand the power of cinema and what it can do to the world. It brings people together, it spreads love, it’s fascinating what cinema can do and it’s sad that a certain group of people choose to not recognize that.”

Deepika Padukone had also tweeted, tagging Information and  Broadcasting minister, Smriti Irani. She wrote, “this has to stop NOW & action must be taken! @smritiirani.”
