Chalo promised to be a hilarious entertainer from its promos. The film has lived up to those expectations as the debutant director Venky Kudumula made it a hilarious ride with well executed comedy scenes. Naga Shourya's confidence in the script paid off as Chalo makes for a satisfying watch.

Story:

Hari (Naga Shourya) is a typical character who finds joy in fights. His parents send him to a place called Tirupppuram that is located in Andhra-Tamilnadu border. Tamil and Telugu people in that village want to kill each other due to regional feuds. Hari's parents send him to that village so that Hari will get vexed of fights and stop finding fun in them. But Hari falls in love with Karthika (Rashmika) who is the daughter of a Tamilian. Now Hari should convince her father and solve the issue between the villagers.

Performances:

Naga Shourya doesn't try to showcase himself as a hero. He keeps it simple and gives natural performance. He is extremely stylish and handsome in the film. Rashmika is a talented actress. She emotes well and did a fab job as the female lead. Satya is very funny as Shourya's sidekick. Vennela Kishore dominates the show in a cameo. Posani, Raghubabu and Naresh made their presence felt. Praveen, Viva Harsha and Sudarshan supported well with decent performances.

Technicalities:

Director Venky Kudumula chose a very simple plot for his debut film. The strength of the film lies in its comedy and an engaging setup. Director has a good sense of humor and uses it to good effect by offering comedy in full dose at regular intervals. There are a few scenes that expose his inexperience though.

Music by Mahati is above average. He scores with the background music and Chusi Chudangane song. Cinematography is good. Dialogues are well written. Editing is fine. Production values are impressive. The film doesn't look like a low budget film in any frame.

Plus Points:

Comedy

Interval scene

Vennela Kishore

Minus Points:

Second half slips

Weird climax

Analysis:

Chalo is a fun film with quality humor and quirky characters. It takes a while to get into the groove and turns out to be a joy ride once hero enters Thiruppuram. Setting a love story amid feuds between two villages is an age old formula. Director Venky Kudumula has given it a nice twist to make it an enjoyable concept.

The director makes the most of the regional feeling between Telugus and Tamils and worked out clever humor around the concept. The screenplay is uneven as the romance scenes between Shourya and Rashmika fails to attract. However, director comes up with a hilarious scene every now and then to keep the audience entertained.

The buildup for the interval scene is well executed and works out well. On a whole, the first half of the film is very enjoyable with nice humor and decent songs. Screenplay loses grip in the second half and director banks on comedy to rescue. Vennela Kishore is introduced at the right time and he steals the show whenever his character enters the scene.

Climax may not go down well with all sections of audience. Director's attempt to give it a funny ending backfired to an extent. It appeared silly than funny and it certainly loses a few points because of it. A couple of songs also could have been avoided. A better second half would have made Chalo a game changer for Naga Shourya.

Leaving the flaws aside, Chalo is a time pass entertainer with loads of comedy and a decent lead pair. Positive word of mouth can boost its box office prospects. Its end result will depend upon how Touch Chesi Chudu fares.

Verdict:

On the whole, Chalo is a breezy entertainer which has comedy as its forte. Naga Shourya makes a good comeback and leads from the front. Even though the plot is simple, the film is filled with entertainment at regular intervals. Comedian Satya and Vennela Kishore make things work with their performance. Finally, this is a kind of film which one needs to leave the logic behind and enjoy the fun that is being showcased. If you are okay with the above-said things, Chalo ends up as a decent time pass entertainer this weekend.
