LIVE UPDATES: India - Pakistan border on high alert

Sanju collects 500 Cr Bollywood in festive mood

After almost two years, Bollywood film industry is enjoying a jaw-dropping box-office numbers in the form of Sanju, a biopic film on Sanjay Dutt. With Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, director Raj Kumar Hirani weaved it as an emotional journey with the key stages of Sanjay's life. On the first day of release, the film yielded Rs 34 crores at box-office and contributed a massive success to Ranbir Kapoor's career that is reeling under continuous disasters.

The distributors are in festive mood and they're overwhelmingly happy about Sanju as the film entered Rs 500 Crore club and that too after a long time in Bollywood. Aamir Khan's Dangal, that released in 2016, was the last Hindi film to deliver a massive box-office hit for Bollywood - apart from Rajamouli's Baahubali that made an exception. In last two years, Salman Khan's Tubelight and Sharukh Khan's Jab Harry met Sejal, Race-3 and Padmavati bombed at the box-office although they were released with huge expectations.

Sanju is putting up some crazy box-office numbers both in India and overseas. The film got off to an amazing start with Rs 202 Crore in first week of release and managed to make 378 Crores gross in India and Rs 122 Crores in overseas till now. In overseas, Sanju has already surpassed the $7 million mark and made a serious record.

After the release, the film met with mixed reviews from film analysts. While some critics were all praise for this biopic film, few people opined that the director ignored the key slipups in Sanjay Dutt's life. Responding to these comments, Sanjay said, 'my life is an open book & there's nothing left to hide in it.
