After flop show with Nagavalli, Venkatesh took his time before signed a new movie.After Salman’s bodyguard good success, He signed telugu remake and paired up with Trisha for the third time.Lets quickly analyze whether Venki has a winner for this pongal?

Story:

Plot sets off with woman narrating the story about Venkatadri(Venkatesh).Varada Rajulu(Prakash Raj) saves a kid from a accident, in which kid loses both his parents.Venkatadri works at a private security firm run by his Uncle(Thanikella Barani).His uncle sends him to  Varada Rajulu  in the name of Bodyguard to put his career and education back on track.Venkatadri have a deep respect towards  Varada Rajulu since childhood,for saving his life.

Varada Rajulu’s opposition,Kota, targets his daughter Keethi(Trisha) as revenge act for killing his(Kota) son.After a attack during a festival,  Varada Rajulu realizes the importance of Bodygaurd to Keerthi when she joins the college.Venkatadri accompanies Keerthi as bodyguard and also joins college to continue his studies.

Keerthi, vexed with Venki’s constant escorting, plans to get rid of him, by diverting his attention with anonymous flirting phone calls .As the days progress, Keerthi understands Venkatadri’s sincerity and falls in love with him, however maintains the anonymity.Keerthi freind (Saloni) always warns her to keep the distance from Venki, as Keerthi is already engaged to his brother in law(Subbaraju). Will Keerthi reveal her identity to Venki and How Saloni changes the love story, forms the rest of the story.

Performances :

Venkatesh and Trisha: This pair is familiar to Tollywood with their previous outings, AMAV and Namo Venkatesha.But Bodyguard is special for them because it demands a intense and competitive performance from the lead pair.As expected both gave a heart melting performance.Especially in the second half, it would be very difficult for audience to judge who is best among them.Venkatesh, is known for his soulful performance and this role is perfect bill for him.Even in 50+, he looked very stylish, except in the close up shots, where his age is visible on face.Even Trisha looked stunningly beautiful and her energy levels are commendable.With Bodyguard, it is proved that experience matters alot in these kind of movies.No other young pair could have done more justice to this movie than Venki-Trisha, which demands high voltage emotional acting.

Others: Prakash Raj, yet again played father of heroine and he is mastered the role with ease.Though she played a game changing role in the climax, there was nothing much for Saloni.She did a decent job within character limits though.After a long time venu Madhav got a lengthy role and he used it effectively.Subba Raju is restricted to couple of scenes.Ali could bring out some laughters.Jayaprakash was good as principal and brought few chuckles with bathroom scenes.Darmavarapu was ok as guy with poor memory.Thulasi fame kid was decent as Venkatesh son.Kota could not impress.Ms Narayana, Thanikella Barani came and went.Rest of the cast were ok.

Direction and Screenplay: With Venkatesh and Trisha and well proven subject, director’s job was ice on cake.However, for a Venkatesh movie, people expect more quality comedy.Though Gopichand managed to stick to original plot, he should have addressed the comedy part more effectively.He should have utilized Ali , MS, Darmavarapu in a better way.Over all, he gave a decent show and delivered an emotionally rich content, without any extra experimentation.

Other Departments: Thaman deserves cent marks for his excellent music and soulful background score.As the movie runs in a emotional backdrop, BG plays an important role and Thaman  has delivered a much required touching music.Cinematography is good.Song locations are very rich and perfectly complemented the melodious music.Stunts are decent,with 50+ venkatesh we cannot expect better, though.Rest of the departments are ok.

Titbits:

Inspite of Kona Venkat donning the pen, there are not many note worthy dialogues.However we bring you the scenes to watch out and couple of dialogues.

Ali reading PRIVATE NUMBER as PARVATI NAMBIAAR brought huge laughters.

Venkatesh ,in female constumes,dancing for Poovai Poovai, he tried to imitate Parvathi melton steps  and it deserves huge applause.

Scene where Trisha calls Venki to park to distance him was heart touching.

Final Analysis:

Bodyguard is well proven subject and it got rave reviews in every language.As soon as Venkatesh and Trisha are signed for the movie, we have a half winner in the hands.It takes lot of damaging work to spoil this content and that too when you have such a good lead pair.Thankfully Gopichand did not experiment anything, at least the second half was exact xerox of original.

First half of the movie is customized to suit to Telugu audience and obviously everything looked very formulaic.With high expectations on the comedy department, movie certainly failed to impress audience with rather a mediocre comedy.With so many comedians along with Venkatesh, one generally expect a laughing riot in the movie.

Following scenes should have been handled in a better way:

Scene where Venkatesh takes up the task of problem solving in the class.Director had no idea what he was upto with the scene.

Venkatesh and Ali entering into ladies hostel in female costumes.Though his dance for Poovai Poovai was hilarious, entire comedy scene should have been handled more carefully and avoided few extreme adultery from Ali.

However, as the story progressed, main plot starts and it keeps you engrossed with neat screenplay.With unpredictable storyline every scene makes you glued to the movie and keeps you guessing.Starting from interval scene,untill the movie reaches climax, movie runs on a high voltage emotion.Comedy takes backstage in second half, as it should be.Climax of the movie looks little off beat , but that is what original plot demands and it should be accepted after such an amazing performances from lead pair.Finally, even if you have watched Original movie in any language, watch Telugu bodyguard for Venkatesh and Trisha.

Final words: Bodyguard is beautifully made pongal treat for Telugu audience.Just accept the climax, you will enjoy the movie
