Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday increased the daily wage of home guards from Rs300 to Rs400. In the event of death of a home guard while discharging duties, Rs5.00 lakh compensation would be paid, according to Home Minister N. Chinna Rajappa who made the announcement in the Assembly. He also said the home guards would be given 5-year age relaxation in constable recruitment.
However, BJP member Vishnukumar Raju said Rs400 is too meager an amount for a home guard to survive and demanded the government to pay Rs672 as per Supreme Court direction. For this, the ruling TDP members raised objections and obstructed his speech shouting that the BJP government at the Centre also went back on its promise to accord special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
It's worth a mention here that the home guards salaries in Telangana were hiked to Rs19,884 by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on June 1 this year. Nearly 20,000 home guards are benefited by the hike. The amount is in conformity to the Supreme Court direction on home guards salaries.
