Huge cache of banned tobacco products seized in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The LB Nagar police Special Operations Team and the Pahadi Shareef police raided an illegal tobacco product unit and seized a huge cache of the banned Zarda, raw material, packing equipment and mixing machines altogether worth about Rs.15 lakh. One person was arrested.

According to the police, the raid conducted on Monday on the unit at Pahadi Shareef saw the seizure of one Zarda packing machine, four tobacco mixing trays, 61 Zarda cottons each containing 26 kg, 12 tobacco gunny bags, each containing 30 kg, food oils, aromatics, 125 loose tobacco packets, five chemical cans, weighing machines, mixers, about 15kg of mixed perfume jam, 10,000 empty pouches, tubs, filters, packing cottons, labels and other material.

The arrested person was identified as Mohammed Shahbaaz, 23, of Jaffer Colony in Secunderabad.

Police said Shahbaaz was running the unit at Pahadi Shareef for the last couple of months. He was illegally storing, manufacturing and selling the banned Zarda under the brand name AR Zarda, and had engaged workers from Uttar Pradesh.

He was purchasing the raw material from Begum Bazaar and selling it after manufacturing, packing and branding to wholesale dealers in the same market.

Shahbaaz and the seized material, worth Rs.15.08 lakh, were handed over to the Pahadi Shareef police for further action.
