Hyderabad: The much awaited Hyderabad Metro Rail's launch has been cleared by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) on Monday. With this clearance, the Metro Rail is all set for launch as scheduled on November 28 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The clearance got delayed leading to an uncertainty over the inauguration program. The Union urban development ministry made it clear that unless the CMRS safety clearance is obtained for the entire 30-km stretch, it will not recommend that the PMO confirm the inauguration by the Prime Minister.
Five intelligence officials from New Delhi, camping in the city for the past four days, inspected tracks, pillars, and stations and reported to the PMO. After the final report was submitted on Monday, the PM’s itinerary for is expected to be decided for the inaugural function.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Metro Rail at Miyapur station on November 28, and take a ride on the train from Miyapur to SR Nagar (12 km) for which CMRS’ safety clearance has been obtained.
Who Will Provide Security On Metro Rails?
The police from the three commissionerates in the city will be overseeing the security of Metro Rail on the inauguration day. The local police will be taking care of the security till a separate force is constituted. “As of now, the local police will be taking care of the security at the stations. An inspector rank official will be in-charge of Metro stations and the security arrangements will be coordinated by an SP-rank official,” said a senior police official. The police inspected Metro stations and drafted a security plan last week. “Assistance from Metro Rail is sought for baggage checking and frisking,” said the official.
A dedicated force on the lines of the government railway police will be created to look after Metro Rail security. As of the now, personnel from the city armed reserve, Telangana special police force and home guards will be posted to man security at Metro stations. There are 26 stations on the Miyapur-Nagole stretch passing through Tarnaka, Begumpet, Ameerpet and Kukatpally.
