Less than 'Baahubali' collections: KTR slams Budget allocation to Telangana

HYDERABAD: Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao on Wednesday hit back at the Centre for not honouring its commitments and said that the state had got a 'raw deal' from New Delhi.

KTR is all set to travel to Delhi on Thursday, to extract funds from the Centre. Highlighting the 'injustice' to Telangana, the Minister remarked, " The Union Budget is not understandable. We sought around Rs 50,000 crore for various schemes. But, the allocations did not even match the collections of Baahubali."

"No one in India can understand whose purpose this Union Budget serves. NDA allies like the TDP are openly fighting against the Budget in Parliament The amount of love the BJP has shown towards Telangana in the Budget will be returned to the BJP equally by Telangana voters in the 2019 elections," KTR told reporters.

The Telangana Minister also said that the Centre did not honour the commitments made to the state during bifurcation.

Last week, Telangana had been hoping for several allocations from the Centre, but was left disappointed, as the state was barely mentioned in the Finance Minister’s speech.

The state government had demanded budgetary allocations for Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya, as recommended by Niti Ayog,

Besides funds for the Kaleshwaram irrigation project, there was also a request to consider granting it a 'national project' status, something which neighbouring Andhra Pradesh already has, for its Polavaram irrigation project.

There was also the long pending issue of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) that is due to be set up in Telangana.

While there were no specific allocations made to Telangana, the Centre said that Rs 440.51 crore was allocated for drinking water projects, to provide safe drinking water to arsenic and fluoride affected habitations in the next four years.

Telangana was also allocated Rs 75 crore for the IIT in Hyderabad and Rs 10 crore for a tribal university.
