Eminent journalist Shekhar Gupta lauded the contribution of late YS Rajasekhara Reddy to Andhra Pradesh. He said during his stint as the Chief Minister, YSR brought in many a welfare schemes for the betterment of the poor and the uncared for.
Speaking at the Sakshi Excellence Awards Ceremony in Hyderabad, he said a lot of good work that late YSR had initiated was still continuing in both the Telugu states despite the change of guard.
Going down the memory lane, he recalled his special bond with the late leader and said the history of the Congress Party and that of the state would have been different if YSR did not dawn on the political firmament.
Sekhar Gupta said YSR had initiated several welfare measures to eliminate poverty and to improve the standard of living. He said he did not really understand the politics down south until he met late YS Rajasekhara Reddy. Late YSR had a great grasp of the woes of the poor and the uncared for people and his battles to improve the lot of them were legion.
Sekhar Gupta, a doyen among journalist, has worked for years as the editor of the Indian Express and is currently with the Headlines Today group. His column 'National Interest' was hugely popular and critically acclaimed. The collection of articles in this column have since been published as a book.
Sekhar Gupta was the chief guest at the Sakshi Excellence Awards and was feted by Sakshi media group chairperson YS Bharathi Reddy.
