Looks like Telangana Congress leaders are disappointed with Rahul Gandhi, who today appointed a three-members screening committee to decide on the Party candidates for the upcoming Telangana State Assembly Elections.
They are: 1) Bhakta Charan Das, AICC secretary from Odisha; 2) Jothimani Sennimalai, former Youth Congress member from Tamil Nadu, who is considered close to Rahul Gandhi; and 3) Sharmista Mukherjee, a senior Congress party leader from West Bengal, who incidentally happens to be the daughter of former President of India Pranab Mukherjee.
Interestingly, the three appointed candidates are being considered 'outsiders' for Telangana, and would not have an understanding of the dynamics in the State! According to a senior Congress leader, who is aspiring for a ticket from one of the Hyderabad City constituencies says, "These leaders parachuted from Delhi do not have any understanding of politics in Telangana; then how can they decide who is the right candidate for a particular Assembly segment or not." He even said that Congress should not let go this opportunity to come into power; and this could be the last bus if right choice is not made on the candidates.
According to a senior journalist working with The leading daily, Congress president Rahul Gandhi should have given the candidates selection responsibility to more seasoned Ghulam Nabi Azad or Digvijaya Singh or Vayalar Ravi or Veerappa Moily, all of whom have been monitoring Telangana and Andhra Pradesh politics closely.
Considering these perceptions, hope Congress do not miss the last bus and 'outsiders' falter in identifying the right 'insiders'.
