The anti-terrorism squad (ATS) on Monday arrested two men who allegedly supplied explosives to the Indian Mujahideen (IM) operatives for the 13/7 triple blasts in Mumbai in 2011.

Himanshu Roy, additional director general of police (ATS), confirmed the news.

The arrested accused have been identified as Sayyed Ismile Lanka, 36, and Saddam Husain Khan, 28.

The duo has been brought to Mumbai on transfer custody from the Bangalore police, who had arrested them from Azad Nagar, Bhatkal, in Karnataka in the first week of January. The Fazer Town police had arrested them in connection with a terror case registered in Bangalore, police said.

The duo will be produced before a local court for police custody on Tuesday.

According to sources in the ATS, the accused supplied explosives on various occasions to high-up IM operatives, including Yasin Bhatkal, Akthar Hussain alias Haddi and Zia Ur Rehman alias Waqas.

The ATS officers suspect the explosives used in the 13/7 blasts were supplied by the duo.

According to the ATS case, Bhatkal was in touch with the two, who then allegedly supplied the explosives and detonators to accused Nadeem Sheikh, who brought them to the city by train, police said. Nadeem was arrested in 2012 in the case.

A mixture of tri-nitro toluene (TNT), ammonium nitrate and petroleum carbon oil was used to prepare four bombs, which went off at Zaveri Bazaar, Opera House and Dadar between 6.52pm and 7.05pm. The fourth bomb planted at Dadar flower market below a police van did not go off. The bombs were assembled in a room at Byculla that the IM operatives had rented before the blasts.

"We would like to ascertain the relationship between the two accused and IM operatives, how many times explosives were supplied by them and how much money changed hand," said a police officer.

Involved in blasts in Pune?
Sources in the ATS Maharashtra suspect the two arrested accused -- Sayyed Ismile Lanka, 36, and Saddam Husain Khan, 28 -- may have supplied explosives for the 2012 blast at Jangli Maharaj Road in Pune. Officers also suspect their involvement in the 2010 Pune German Bakery blast.
