Hyderabad: The farmers and workers of the Nizam Deccan Sugar factory have got cheers and smiles back on their faces with the Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhaara Rao deciding to nationalise the loss making factory.
The sugar factory , the biggest in the Asian continent, is handicapped by a plethora of problems due to the negligence of the previous governments.
The factory is not in a position to pay dues to the sugar cane growers and pay salaries to the staff as it incurred heavy losses over a period of time.
In the TRS campaign meetings during the last elections, KCR gave an assurance that the loss making factory would be nationalised if TRS came to power.
Keeping up his promise, KCR has decided to take over the factory reins to put the company on the profit note. The company has three factory units at Bodhan in Nizamabad district, at Mumboji Pally in Medak district and at Muthyam Pet village in Karimnagar district.
The profit making company was sold out to Delta group in 2002 by the then Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. Dr. YSR , who succeeded as CM, decided to nationalise it but with his sudden death, his successors decided not to implement the decision.
