Brahmanandam’s son Gautam’s Basanti has hit the screens today on February 28. Although the actor has debuted long back, his two films didn’t do well at the box-office and Gautam is making a comeback with Basanti after a gap of 4 long years. The film has got needed publicity with many star actors Chiranjeevi, Mahesh Babu, Pawan Kalyan, NTR, Prabhas, Allu Arjun, Ram Charan promoting the film launching the songs.

Story:
A serious tale, the story begins with Arjun (goutham) a college student who is easy going guy hanging out with his friends (ranadheer, naveena). He falls in love with Roshni (alisha), daughter of police commissioner Khan (sayaji). Twist occurs when a group of terrorists enter Arjun’s college and take the students as hostage. Though he is not there at that time, Arjun still goes inside the college. Why does he do that and what happens from there forms the rest.
Performances:
Goutham is impressed with his performance in Basanti. He underplays his character very well. He needs to work slightly on his voice modulation. Alisha Baig is average and its difficult to understand whether she is happy or sad with her expressions. Ranadir is right choice for Abbas, He has the looks and the personality of the character.
Tanikella Bharini is justified his role with few promising lines. Terrorists were suffering from poorly written characters. Friend of Arjun Swathi has managed to put across her act pretty well Rest of the characters are fine in their limited roles.
Technical Departments:
The director has come up with a serious storyline and while the presentation was good quality, the narrative was good in parts. The dialogues were adequate. The script was average and the screenplay was moderate. The background score was melodious and three songs were worth watching. Cinematography was efficient. Editing was required at few places. Costumes were good enough while the art department was apt. Goutham has to work more on his expressions and body language but his efforts were sincere.
Plus Points:
Cinematography
Music
Few Sequences
First Half
Runtime
Minus Points:
Fight Sequences
Second half Drags
Routine Narration
Pretty old treatment
Second Half
Analysis:
The strength of the film lies in its solid music and bgm by Mani Sharma. Cameraman Anil Bandari has captured some picturesque frames of Hyderabad. The director has certainly picked some very good outdoor spots to suit the narrative of the story. The song composition does go with the visuals but the background score by Mani Sharma more than makes up for it.
Final Word:Good subject but could have been handled better.
