Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav seems to have watched the piracy version of Aamir Khan’s latest movie PK which is running successfully in theatres. Akhilesh tweeted that he had watched PK long back but couldn’t watched it due to lack of time. He, however, stated that he watched the movie on Tuesday night taking time from busy schedule. He praised the film and exempted it from tax. Speaking at a press conference, Akhilesh said on Wednesday, “People had been telling me for many days to watch PK. I downloaded it a few days ago, but only found the time to watch it last night. I liked it immediately and decided to make it tax-free so that more people can watch it.”
This naturally created furore in online. Many tweeple have lashed out at Akhilesh for “downloading” the movie and watching “piracy” copy. One tweeted, “Akhilesh Yadav spprts piracy by wtchng PK after downloading it. It’s a federal crime 2 download a film.I&B ministry shd take actn.#PKdebate.”
In order to rescue Akhilesh, UPCMO took to twitter to clarify, “#UPCM #Akhileshyadav has licensed @UFOMoviez digifacility to download & watch movies. Controversy around pirated download is unwarranted.” However, it is not yet clear if a film still running in theatres could be downloaded even commercially.
Giving a fitting counter to UPCMO, anti-SP protagonists questioned on twitter, “You’re sticking up for UPCMO, so comeup with scan of licence.” Another wrote, “But an RTI will prove whether UPCMO has a UFO licence or not;)”
