Currently, there is an unprecedented craze in Tollywood to grab the remake rights of the latest Malayalam blockbuster, Premam. After smashing all the existing box-office records by grossing 32 crores in just 25 days, Premam is swiftly zooming up to become the all-time industry blockbuster. However, witnessing the craze among the Tollywood producers to remake this film, film lovers are pleading them not to remake this classic.
This variety request of not to mess with this classic hit is because of Tollywood's forgettable history of spoiling several classic hits from other languages. Also, Premam is a sensitive story of a young man and his three love stories as he comes of age. Ardent lovers of Telugu cinema feel that our filmmakers lack the emotional depth to retain the soul of Premam in Telugu and that they may spoil the content in the name of adapting it to Telugu nativity.
The craze is not just limited to Premam as several Tollywood producers are also vying for the remake rights of a few latest Malayalam blockbusters and Oru Vadakkan Selfie is one such hotcake. Meanwhile, the Telugu remake of Bangalore Days has already begun. It will be interesting to see if our filmmakers will oblige the desperate appeals of film buffs or continue with their remake plans.
