Star Cast: Udhayanidhi Stalin Nayantara N. Santhanam
Director: Jagadish
Producer: Udhayanidhi Stalin
Music: Harris Jayaraj
Timesofap Rating: 2/5
For the second and third time in a row, Udhayanidhi Stalin pairs up with Nayantara and Santhanam respectively to dish out an outright comedy entertainer. Has it worked this time around? Can Udhayanidhi taste success trying the same formula thrice? Read our Nannbenda review to know.
Story: Udhayanidhi and Santhanam are childhood friends who part ways as kids and meet each other as grown-ups. Why? Because destiny makes sure they come together for the second time.
While Udhayanidhi revives his friendship with Santhanam, he comes across Nayantara and falls in love the moment he sees her. He meets her multiple times at random locations which leads him to believe that she is the one born for him.
Rest of the story revolves around how Udhayanidhi tries to woo his lady love with the help of his close friend. While doing so they get into an unwanted trouble.
Will the hero make the heroine fall for him? Will Udhayanidhi and Santhanam manage to get out of their sticky situation? This is told with generous dose of brainless humour as Nannbenda showcases a jolly ride in vain.
Performances: As expected, the stand out performers in this movie are Nayantara and Santhanam. Karunakaran, Sherin and Vinodhini have delivered among the supporting roles.
Udhayanidhi has done justice to his character(much better than his previous roles). The efforts taken by him to try his hand at fighting and dancing(primary elements required to be a Hero) is noticeable.
Technicalities: Thanks to the producer's smart move, Nannbenda is blessed with brilliant technicians. But unfortunately, director Jagadish's writing has fallen flat reflecting the same in screenplay and narration which punishes the audience.
Balasubramaniem's cinematography captures each and every color in detail and is a definite strength to the movie. Not to mention his efforts to portray Nayantara's curvaceous figure in slow motions.
National Award winning editor, Vivek Harshan has made his presence felt with some sharp cuts. Having said that, even his editing suffers under Jagadish's unwanted sequences which unfortunately forms the movie. Background score by Harris Jayaraj is engaging and adds stability to Nannbenda.
Analysis:Udhayanidhi's Nanbenda is acceptable in parts that too for Nayantara. Everything else seems stereotype. Besides inspiration, it seems to be a poor sister of Oru Kal Oru Kannadi [OKOK] with its own moments of interest and defects.
I even wonder how stars give their consent to such wafer-thin scripts with inconsistent characterizations. On the whole, “Wine isn't tasty with added ice box”. Neatly stitched characterizations with interesting twists and turns make a movie.
Final Word: It is time Udhayanidhi Stalin gets back to his drawing board as just flaunting attractive heroines with overdose of baseless comedy might not work forever.
