It's the biggest night of the year and Birdman star Emma Stone was left a little red-faced after suffering a fashion fail by accidentally flashing her nude underwear on the red carpet.

The red haired star, who made our best dressed stars of the night list, let herself down by lifting her skirt up too high to stop it dragging in the sodden red carpet.

Sadly, the red carpet got a little wet thanks to uncharacteristic rain that has marred the 87th Academy Awards.



It's an unfortunate mishap, but thankfully the talented actress recovered well in the stunning lime backless frock.

Keira Knightley opted for a delicate creamy number, which appears to be layered, with embroidery on top, while America Ferrera, one of the first stars to walk the red carpet, is wearing a dress by British designer Jenny Packham.

Gwyneth Paltrow arrived in a pale pink number with a blossoming floral creation on the shoulder, while Scarlett Johansson is in a fitted emerald green design.



Lady Gaga stuck with her unique signature style as she arrived in a full-length white sequinned costume.
Reese Witherspoon opted for an off-the-shoulder monochrome gown, while Cate Blanchett is in an elegant dark floor-length dress.

Margot Robbie also chose a full-length dark creation, but hers has a daring neckline and sheer sleeves.

Jada Pinkett Smith is wearing a pale pink dress with fine straps, while Oprah Winfrey is in a similar colour.

Naomi Watts has shunned a block colour and instead opted for a silver and black print, while Marion Cotillard also sported a subtle print.

The stars are gathered at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for the annual ceremony, with the biggest names in Hollywood in attendance.

Eddie Redmayne will be hoping to continue his impressive and successful award season so far with more recognition for his performance in The Theory of Everything, and even Benedict Cumerbatch's parents have tipped him to win over their son .
