The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday seized properties of Telugu director and former Coal Minister Dasari Narayana Rao that worth over Rs 2 Crore. In connection with money laundering probe in the Coal Block Allocations, ED attached Dasari's few fixed deposit receipts worth Rs 50 lakh, a residential premise and two vehicles. The above mentioned properties were freezed for the next 180 days during which the affected party can appeal it to the Adjudicating Authority of the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act).
Dasari is the former Rajya Sabha MP and Minister of State (MoS) in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's cabinet ( 2004 to 2006 and 2006 to 2008) while none other than Manmohan was then Union Coal Minister. His role in routing of an amount of Rs 2.25 crore from a firm of Jindal-ND Exim to Soubhagya Media in which he is said to have interest, is being investigated.
It may be recalled that former PM Manmohan Singh, Coal Secretary PC Parakh, Industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla and three others were summoned as accused by CBI Court for the offences of "Corruption", "Criminal Conspiracy" and "Breach of Trust".
