Trade reports have earlier proved that cricketing season in India is taking strong blow on box office numbers. Bigger stars of Bollywood like Shahrukh have postponed releases of their films sometimes to avoid clash with IPL Matches. Now that World Cup 2015 is going on and IPL 2015 on its way, Telugu films are also getting ready to face the bitter reality.
Clubbed together, the Mahesh++ includes Mahesh Babu, Bunny, Rajamouli, Gunasekhar, Gopichand, Ram and others who are upping their sleeves for a release. Mahesh-Siva's Srimanthudu, Bunny's S/o Satya Murthy, Rajamouli-Prabhas' Baahubali, Gunasekhar's Rudramadevi, Gopichand's Jil and Ram's Pandaga Chesko are aiming at Summer release only. The big question is about the revenues of these films getting affected by the cricket matches as the sport's fever has caught country already.
Already World Cup frenzy caught up Indians with Team Blue bleeding a victory over arch rival Pakistan. Now, if India goes well in all league games and enters Semis, then then the fever lasts till end of March. And in no time from April 8th, IPL 2015 kick starts and lasts till May 24th, the Final day. Will these games really affect the collections of these big stars?
Trade experts say that cricket has surely taken a top position in providing entertainment to audiences. But saying that IPL is going to affect film collections is not a right thing as any film with right content will draw audiences despite any odd season outside it is. And as world cup happens in Aus-Newzealand, all matches are schedule in mornings only, which may sometimes dent revenues of morning shows and matinee.
In other words, cinema is cinema and cricket is cricket, so there is no need to worry about Mahesh++ as they too could score well.
