A man was sentenced Friday for causing a bus crash on Interstate 95 that left one person dead and more than a dozen injured.
Raphael Manuel Barrientos, 31, of Dumfries, received a 10-year prison sentence - eight years of which were suspended by the judge in the case.
Barrientos was convicted of speeding and felony hit-and-run in the March 23 incident that occurred near Lorton.
Authorities said Barrientos drove a speeding car that swerved into the bus’s travel lane on the highway.
The bus then swerved right to avoid the car, ran off the road, struck the guardrail and overturned.
David Alberto Sanchez, 24, of Woodbridge, died in the crash, while 16 others were sent to area hospitals with injuries.
