A man is under arrest, after police say he returned to the scene of central Austin crime to deliver a hand-written apology note.
Preston Moore came across an uninvited guest when he drove up to his Hyde Park home.
"I was like, 'what's going on is he helping us clean up or something?' Because the first thing you're thinking about is not getting robbed just casually in the middle of the day," said Moore.
But it turns out that's exactly what was happening.
An arrest warrant said Neil Kumar told Moore "I guess you caught me."
Kumar then put down Moore's keyboard case and started to walk off.
"The first thing he said was, 'oh, I better go,' so okay, if he's trying to get away he's doing something wrong," added Moore.
Moore sprang into action and snapped a photo of Kumar.
"Pulled it out, kept my distance from him and snapped a picture like normal just trying to get his face in the picture," added Moore.
Moore said Kumar walked into an apartment complex located on the 600 block of West 30th Street -- just feet from their bizarre encounter.
"I didn't want to follow him because that seemed like a terrible idea," said Moore.
So Moore called the cops and as the responding officer wrote his report, Kumar walked over to him and allegedly said he wanted to confess his crime.
In his pocket the officer said he found a note apologizing to Moore for attempting to take his property. Kumar reportedly told the cop he planned on leaving the note on Moore's front door.
"He seemed a little drunk of under the influence so my first thought of this isn't a horrible guy maybe he's going through a tough time. I didn't want to get involved but then I thought I don't want him to do this to other people," added Moore.
Kumar is charged with burglary of a non-residence. That's a state jail felony.
