Zombies invaded the campus at the University of North Florida Thursday night. It was all to set a record for the largest college campus production.
It was the Michael Jackson gravesite scene from 'Thriller' right down to the full moon. About 250 zombie dancers swarmed the green on the University of North Florida for an extravagant production 'The UNF Thrilling Dead'.
"We're setting a record for largest college production and we want to challenge other universities to do the same thing," said performance manager and choreographer Andrew Coconoto.
The evening started with MJ's funeral and then transitioned to Johnny Cash's 'Ain't no grave' song. Coconoto says they wanted to honor music's most iconic legends.
"It's kind of like a symbolism there's no grave that can hold a legend's body down," said Coconoto.
The Ospreys are trying to establish their own legacy. They say choosing to "zombify" themselves was the perfect way to unify.
"Seeing greeks and non-greeks, student government members and freshman and sophomores and athletes but you don't really see those titles," added Coconoto.
Not only was it a thrilling event for students, but they achieved enhancing campus life by playing dead.
The nightmare in November was the tag line added when the production had to be moved from Halloween to a week after due to rain.
