Jobless engineer commits suicide
An engineering graduate ended his life at Jeedimetla depressed over being duped of Rs. 4.5 lakh with a false promise of a placement in a company, the police said on Wednesday.
The body of 24-year-old P. Venu was found lying in his rented house at Suryanagar in Chinthal.
He hails from Nizamabad town and was living with his friends having come to city a few months ago to find a job. His father P. Kantham, a conductor with APSRTC, told the police that his son had applied to several companies and attended interviews.
Meanwhile, a person Ajay approached Venu assuring him of a job in a multinational company and sought Rs. 4.5 lakh for ‘extending the help’, Jeedimetla Sub-Inspector M. Srinivas said. With much difficulty, he mobilised the sum and paid it to Ajay.
“But Ajay did not keep his word and we demanded that he return the money. He was supposed to return the money two days ago and failed to do so. This apparently depressed my son,” the victim’s father told the police. Mr. Kantham grew suspicious as his son did not answer his phone calls the previous day.
On Wednesday morning, he rang up Ajay and asked the latter to find out what had happened.
Ajay went to the house only to find that Venu had hanged himself. The SI said Venu hanged himself using a bed linen. No suicide note was found. Based on a complaint lodged by Mr. Kantham, the police registered a case of abetment to suicide against Ajay.
