The operation to search for the debris and dead bodies by the Indian Coast Guard ships and aircraft in the area where the Pakistani boat was intercepted in the wee hours of New Year in the Arabian Sea still continues.
Coast Guard IG Kuldeep Singh on Saturday briefed the media over the suspicious Pakistan terror boat that was found off Gujarat’s Porbander coast reportedly loaded with explosives.
“In the afternoon of December 1, we had positively identified a suspected boat 365 km south west of Porbandar and we tried to stop the boat to communicate with it, but there was no response from the boat,” Singh said.
Singh further added that they switched on the light for some time. “We saw that those on board did not look like fishermen. We continued to give signals but the boat did not respond to our repeated signals and after sometime they themselves blew up the boat.”
The sources inform that the Pakistani ‘terror boat’ was tracked post a conversation over delivering a huge consignment to India was caught from Karachi.
On being quizzed regarding the current scenario of the boat, Kuldeep Singh informed, “We are investigating the matter and the area is under strict surveillance. We are trying to recover something from it but have not found anything so far.”
The Intelligence Reports suggest that the boat which had four people on board who blew themselves was possible carrying explosives. On being spotted and warned by the Coast Guard, the occupants of the boat picked up the speed and tried to escape.
The recent incident has once again highlighted the marine threats India faces. On November 26, 2008, 10 terrorists had entered Mumbai through the Mumbai coast in a boat loaded with explosives. After entering the financial capital safely, they all had then split into different parts of the city to carry forward the 26/11 Mumbai serial attacks, continuing for four days killing 166 people. The incident is one of the worst terror attacks India faced.
