Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari has informed that the State government was taking measures to set up 17 new degree colleges across Telangana State. Replying to a question during Question Hour in Legislative Assembly on Thursday, the Deputy CM said that mapping is also being done to establish one residential degree college for girls in each of the 10 districts in the State. He said that the government would provide infrastructure, faculty and staff immediately after the allotment of land for the proposed colleges.
He said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has directed that instead of routine courses, the new colleges should focus on imparting skill development. He said KCR was quite particular about girl education in the State. Kadiyam also informed that there were 178 degree colleges in the State which include nine aided and 22 women's colleges where 41,600 girls are studying different courses. He said that the women's degree colleges in Alampur and Golconda would be started soon.
Speaking on the issues, BJP MLA G Kishan Reddy reminded that the State Government had earlier announced setting up of one degree college in each Assembly constituency. However, no steps were taken in this regard. He said several Assembly constituencies do not even have a junior college. MIM MLA Kausar Mohiuddin urged the government to start the women's degree college in Golconda at the earliest. TRS legislator G Sunitha complained of lack of basis amenities in women's colleges. The also sought complete details on the proposal to impart KG to PG free education.
