The senior Congress leaders closeted at party headquarters in Gandhi Bhavan here on Sunday and discussed the issue for about a couple of hours, according to sources. They are planning to take up a rail rook against the Centre’s decision which will provoke regional sentiments in Telangana.
It may be noted that MP V Hanumantha Rao, who along with Danam Nagender and others, recently protested against the issue at the Shamshabad Airport and got arrested. VH, who attended the meeting, gave a call to the party cadre to launch massive protests to disrupt rail transport in the places to be decided, according to information. He demanded that the Centre withdraw its decision naming domestic terminal after NTR, the former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh. He warned that the Congress will take up “Rail Roko” program to press the Centre to withdraw its decision on NTR’s name.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah, CLP leader K Jana Reddy, former MPs Balaram Naik and Ponnam Prabhakar attended the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, V Hanumanth Rao came down heavily on the Centre for taking such a unilateral decision. The Centre should withdraw its decision or face rail roko protests, he warned. He also alleged that the Centre was bowing to AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s pressure tactics in this regard. When the Telangana got statehood on the regional sentiments, what is the necessity of using name of an Andhra leader for it, he asked. He sought to know why the Centre acted in a jiffy to use NTR’s name for domestic terminal. “This is only provocative decision and we will fight until NTR name is withdrawn”, VH warned.
