New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party government has decided to launch a helpline for the city's labourers where they can register complaints against their employers and seek advice from on their problems.
Stressing the need to give priority to the working class, Delhi Labour Minister Gopal Rai said the government would soon come up with a dedicated helpline number for all labourers, including those engaged in the construction sector.
According to the government, the existing helpline number does not function properly as it only gets reachable through some "selected" telecom service providers.
"We have started working on the new helpline number for city's labourers, including construction workers, who can get advice and complaint registered through it," Rai said in New Delhi.
He said that in the next few days, the government will launch this helpline number. Earlier this month, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had launched the Shramik Vikas Mission which includes a slew of programmes for welfare of workers.
"No one has gone to jail for not paying minimum wages to the workers even though we celebrate Labour Day every year Corrupt employers will be finally punished by God after death but Delhi Government will punish them before it," he said.
Kejriwal had also highlighted the problems faced by the labourers and the lack of enforcement of legal provisions.
