Devender Goud,Pranahita-Chevella project,Devender Goud has urges KCR
Telugu Desam Party senior leader and Member of Parliament T. Devender Goud has urged Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to rethink about the government’s proposed moves to redesign the Pranahita-Chevella project.
Writes to KCR
In a letter addressed to Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao, Mr. Devender Goud expressed concern that alteration in the design of the prestigious project, aimed at catering to drinking and irrigation needs of six districts in Telangana, could pose difficulties in securing the national status to the project. Denial of national status to the project would impose additional burden on the State exchequer and this would in turn pose difficulties in ensuring timely completion of the project.
Moreover, the proposal to reduce the scope of the project in the name of objections from neighbouring Maharashtra was not proper.
The Member of Parliament quoted reports in the past which projected that less than 5,000 acres of land, particularly unirrigated land in Maharashtra, would come under submergence of Pranahita-Chevella project and the project received support from the BJP leaders of the neighbouring State in the past.
The government could take steps to plug the shortcomings in terms of selection of motors and other issues rather than reducing the scope of the project that had been conceived as the lifeline of Telangana, he added.
