Inspector axed for aiding accused teacher in sexual abuse of minors

GUNTUR: Acting tough against an errant cop, Inspector General of Police (South Coastal Zone), PV Suneel Kumar placed Inspector of Police attached to Podalakur police station in Nellore district, M Hyma Rao under suspension.

The suspended inspector was found guilty of aiding a school teacher accused in sexual abuse of girl students including minor girls at his school.

Taking a serious view of Nellore SP Ch. Srikanth's findings, IGP suspended inspector Hyma Rao on the charges of helping a heinous criminal. According to information, teacher at MPP school at Taldiparthi village of Podalakur mandal N Ramesh was booked under various section of IPC and also under POCSO (Protection of Children against Sexual Offences) Act following the complaints lodged by girl students of the school.

During the course of investigation, it came to light that Ramesh had sexually harassed and exploited girl students of aged below 10 years. While section 27 of POCSO act mandates the inspector to send the victims for medical examination, Hymarao did not act immediately after the receipt of the complaint, said IGP.

"The medical reports in such cases would have helped the prosecution in tightening the noose around the accused in heinous crime," Sunilkumar felt. Besides not acting swiftly, inspector had also failed to arrest the accused even 3 months after booking the case. He said that Inspector did not even respond to the reminders of SP on arresting the accused. IGP said that there was no place for such negligence and recklessness in the police department particularly while dealing with the cases against the sexual abuses against girls.
