Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has written a letter to Union Minister for Civil Aviation P Ashok Gajapathi Raju seeking approval for an airport at Kothagudem, Khammam District.
 
TRS Government has already identified 1,600 acres of land at Punuguduchelaka near Kothagudem for setting up a new airport. The distance between Shamshabad Airport and Kothagudem Airport will be 240 km.
 
KCR pointed out there is substantial economic activity in Khammam and Kothagudem being a major Industrial town in the state is an advantage. He also mentioned the new airport will be useful for tourists who visit Bhadrachalam apart from government officials and private persons.
