Rajahmundry: The TD move to install the statue of the party’s founder NTR Rao on the bed of the Godavari on the eve of the Godavari Pushkarams in the city is being opposed by locals as he was not connected to the region.
Locals want only the statue of a personality associated with the city and their choice is Rajaraja Narendra, the Chalukya king of Vengi who established Rajamahendravaram.
They also supported the installation of the statues of social reformer Kandukuri Veresalingam panthulu, poet Adikavi Nannaya, the Godavari deity, Lord Shiva and others.
