Rahul Gandhi likely to become Congress chief in April

All India Congress Party is soon to see a major shuffling with Rahul Gandhi likely to become the Congress chief and the reigning party Chief Sonia Gandhi to become the chairperson of the Congress parliamentary party.

The repositioning is expected to take place sometime between March 28 and April 15 when Parliament will be in recess.

Congress has plans to call an AICC session during that time and secure party’s nod for the transition which the top brass of the party do not wish to delay anymore.

The shuffling is being seen as a generational shift of leadership by senior organization managers of the party.

Appointments of new presidents for Maharashtra (Ashok Chavan), Mumbai city (Sanjay Nirupam), J&K (Ghulam Ahmed Mir), Gujarat (Bharatsinh Solanki), Delhi (Ajay Maken) and Telangana (Uttam Reddy)  bears Rahul's stamp.

After party’s defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, party seems to be divided in two camps wherein one still wants to continue its comforts under the Sonia umbrella and feels that it is too early to burden Rahul while the other believes that further delay will only complicate situations.

As published in a report by Times of India, AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh and veteran MP Kamal Nath have demanded Rahul's immediate elevation, complaining that two power centres in the organization are creating confusion and slowing down decision-making.

While some in the party held that Rahul should be designated ‘working president’ before passing on the baton completely, the current Congress chief Sonia Gandhi believed otherwise and said that it is time that party came over the dual power centres.

Ideally the family should have waited for a winning platform to crown the heir however, the same is not seen anywhere in the recent future hence the party managers have given up the idea of a favorable atmosphere.

Earlier, this month, Rahul has taken “introspection” leave from the party which raised myriad speculations in the party and outside.

Some even believed that this could be a time when Priyanka Gandhi could take up the organizational responsibility.  However, senior party leaders slammed the reports and said that Rahul would return to take up his job with renewed vigor.
