Hyderabad: In order to ease traffic and make Hyderabad a world-class city, the State government is thinking of shifting industries from within the city limits to the outskirts. “With the city expanding over the years, many industries and industrial parks are now within the city limits. Government is actively thinking to shift them to the outskirts with support from the industry, so that such a problem will not arise in future,” Industries Minister Jupally Krishna Rao said here on Tuesday.

  •     Industries Minister assures all possible help for revival

Rao, however, assured the industry bodies that the government would consider pros and cons before going ahead on this issue. “We have already identified sufficient land for industrial sector,” he said.  He was speaking at an interactive meeting organised by the Telangana Industrialists Federation (TIF) and FTAPCCI.

S Niranjan Reddy, Vice-Chairman of Telangana Planning Board, concurred with the Minister’s views and said industrialists would benefit immensely if they shift their units as they can expand their operations. “Besides, they can monetise their existing lands in the city by requesting the government to change the land use,” he said, adding that the Planning Board would also make a proposal to the government on this.

The government was also planning various measures to provide a new lease of life to the ailing industrial units, the Industries Minister said.  He said all possible efforts would be made to revive the sick units across the new State. “I have recently held a review meeting with officials and directed them to study and submit a report on sick units in the State. The government is keen to revive them after carrying out a thorough study,” he informed.

Admitting that crippling power shortage was one of the major reasons for several units turning sick, he said efforts were already underway to solve the power problem permanently.  Energy Minister Dr C Laxma Reddy who also took part in the meeting said that there would be some power shortage during this summer.

“Industry should co-operate with the government this year. But we will see to it that there will be no power shortage next year,” he maintained. Commercial Taxes Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav and a large number of industrialists were present at the meeting.
