Telugu film stars, personalities are reportedly evading over Rs 100 Crore Service Tax to the government. Besides remuneration, actors, singers, directors charge Service Tax to film producers for their services. This amount of Service Tax shall be paid to Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax Department. However, not all are following the tradition and evading crores of Service Tax to the government causing severe losses to the public exchequer.

As per the rules, actors, musicians, singers, directors and writers charge additional 12.36% of Service Tax to producers on their remuneration. These people have to be registered in Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax Department in prior and during filing the Annual Returns, they have to show these numbers in their Returns and should pay Service Tax amount to government. However, it is learnt that few have not even registered themselves under Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax Department.

Suspecting foul play in it, Taxes Department inquired deeply into the issue. It suspected that many of film personalities are not filing returns regularly and not paying Service Tax to the amount of income mentioned in Returns. As it dig into deep, it find out startling information that over Rs 100 Crore has been evaded by Telugu film personalities (including actors and technicians) alone. The department has listed out names of individual actors, production houses and going to issue summons to them from Monday (today). If anyone fails to respond to summons, Taxes department decided to do sudden "searching" operations and even may arrest them.
