Phone-tapping case: Supreme Court to hear telcos plea tomorrow

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today agreed to hear telcos plea challenging the Vijayawada Metropolitan Court's order to submit phone call data sought by the SIT.

It may be noted that the Magistrate Y Srinivas Rao directed the telcos to submit the phone call data of 25 mobile numbers sought by the SIT in a sealed cover.

The petition came up for hearing today before the bench headed by CS Thakur. Senior advocate Y Nageswara Rao appeared for the telcos.

A three-judge bench comprising of TS Tagore, Gopala Gowda and Bhanumati will hear the case tomorrow. It may be noted that Vijayawada court ordered the telcos to provide last six months phone call data of the 25 numbers prior to June 8.

The state government was directed to initiate action on telcos for contempt of court.
