Rocking star Manchu Manoj, is back with yet another commercial entertainer in the form of Current Theega. Directed by Nageswara Reddy, this film has Rakul Preet as the female lead. After a round of huge promotions and publicity, this film has hit the screens today. Let’ see how it is.

Story

Shivarama Raju (Jagapathi Babu) is the head of Parvathipuram village ,will be arrested by the police for killing his younger daughter and her lover. Then opens up the flash back episode. Raju(Manchu Manoj) is a happy-go-lucky village boy who simply roams on the roads and keep interfering in others matters if he finds fault, and settles the issues. His only aim will be to impress English Teacher (Sunny Leone) who actually never cares for him. To flatter the teacher ,Raju uses Kavitha(Rakul Preet Singh) as courier . To Raju’s disappointment ,one day teacher gives her wedding invitation to Raju,by which Raju will be completely dejected and kind of heart broken.

On the other hand, when goons try to sexually assault Kavitha in her school, Raju comes to rescue her and fights with goons. Eventually both Rakul and Raju falls for each other. And Shivarama Raju doesn’t like this at all and try to stop Raju from loving his daughter Kavitha.
So, how does Raju plan to win his love back and gives a happy ending to his love story forms the rest of the story.

Performance

Manchu Manoj: Other than in silly comedy scenes and serious fighting sequences, Manchu Manoj has again proved that he is unfit or may be not perfectly fit for emotional scenes. Though he has changed his voice modulation and also not imitating his father Mohan Babu, he some how impressed with subtle acting to some extent. In self designed fight scenes, Manchu Manoj has again proved his mettle without going for any dupe for some risky stunts. On the whole, his acting is average.

Rakul Preet Singh : This most happening girl of Tollywood has lived the role she played of an intermediate college student. Rakul looked beautiful but acting wise still not up to the mark .But her smile can easily win millions of hearts easily.

Sunny Leone: Every body knows the reason for picking up Sunny Leone for the film,as there are much more such glamour factors required to save the flick. As Sunny was paid a bomb for the role, director Nagewar Reddy has shown her as she was meant to be though her character has no importance and no where connected to the story.

Jagapathi Babu: There is nothing to say about Jaggu Bhai as he has done a very normal role.Though his rugged looks gives an impression that Shiva Rama Raju character has some serious image, but lack of proper characterization made it look dull at the end .

Prudhvi : This “30 years industry” guy has again rocked the screens with his beautiful timing of comedy punches whenever he appeared on screen. He did his job well.

Last but not the least, burning star Sampoornesh Babu’s cameo will tickle the funny bones of the audience to the fullest for sure. Actually he is seen in only one scene, but it is heard that his character has been chopped off by the director ,fearing that Sampoo may overplay Manoj.

Others like Vennela kishore ,Tanikella Bharani, Supreet have all done their jobs well.

Plus Points

First half of the film is quite entertaining. It has the perfect blend commercial elements like songs, dances and fights. The story is nicely set up here and flows freely. Current Theega is Manchu Manoj’s show all the way. Right from the word go, it is Manoj and his performance that takes center stage. He gives in a settled performance and does not go overboard unlike his previous films. He is good in comedy and emotional department, and it needless to say about the action sequences which he has choreographed quite well.

Rakul Preet is slowly becoming a glamorus star and also emotes supremely well. She looks gorgeous in Indian attire, and carries off the school girl look quite well. Vennela Kishore, Tagubothu Ramesh bring in few laughs. The climax has been designed decently and the fight which comes in here lifts the film to a positive note. Sunny Leone provides the necessary eye candy and entertains in a song.

Minus Points

The second half is a bit dull. Even though the makers tried to invoke decent entertainment, the story just wanders around. Two songs come one after the other, and spoil the flow of the film slightly. Jagapathi Babu’s role lacks the necessary punch. His character is not elevated much and does not provide enough kick to the audience. One could say that he is getting repetitive with his look, and it is high time for him to try something new.

The villain track looks forced and is out of place in the film. Story is quite simple and becomes predictable during the second half with routine elements taking center stage.

Technical

Music of the film is good, and all the songs have been shot quite well. Production values are excellent, and showcase the village nativity well. Dialogues written are entertaining and suit Manoj’s body language well. Editing by Sekhar is quite good in the film. All the montage shots and fights have been edited quite interestingly.

Coming to the director Nageswara Reddy, he builds up the tempo quite nicely till the first half but falters during the second. The villain angle, twists in the tale and other forced comedy at this time becomes routine.

Analysis

The technology has brought a lot of changes to people and entertainment media. Attempting a village based subject is a risk these days. The unit of Current Theega has taken that risk and delivered it as a well-packaged film. Manoj Manchu delivers his best in this movie. On a whole. Current Theega is a colorful village entertainer that has something for everybody.

Final Word

Time pass entertainer
