Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Baby’ had an average opening by generating Rs 9.3 core in box office collection. According to early reports, the movie did well in major cities and it was reflected in multiplex business.

‘Baby’ movie is Akshay Kumar’s ninth biggest opening day grosser in a list topped by his 2012 release ‘Rowdy Rathore’ (Rs 15.10 crore), ‘Boss’ (Rs 14.5 crore) and Housefull 2 (Rs 14 crore). in 2014, his two movies – ‘Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty’ and ‘Entertainment’ –  also opened well at Rs 12.18 crore and Rs 11.57 crore respectively.

‘Baby’ box office collections might not have been earth-shattering, but the business will definitely pick up with the extended weekend ahead because of the Republic Day. Here’s what trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on ‘Baby’ box office collections on he opening day:

#Baby Fri ₹ 9.3 cr. Biz picked up during evening/night shows. Superb word of mouth. Biz to multiply on Sat, Sun and Mon [Republic Day].

Neeraj Pandey-directed ‘Baby’ has garnered good reviews from critics and the word of mouth publicity too has been positive. Also, expectations have been at an all-time high after the first lot of releases this year failed to make any impact at the box office.

Film distributor Akshaye Rathi tweeted that ‘Baby’ has had a solid opening and the movie’s business will grow with a fantastic word of mouth.

‘Baby’ marks the reunion of director Neeraj Pandey and actor Akshay Kumar, after their earlier success ‘Special 26′.
