An addition to the adult comedy genres of movies in bollywood, Gulshan Devaiah starrer Hunterrr releases today. Directed by Harshvardhan Kulkarni, the movie also stars Sai Tamhankar and Radhika Apte. Let’s see how different or similar it is to the other movies of the same genre…

Story:

‘Hunterrr’ has a story that revolves around the life of a sex addict, Mandar Ponkshe (Gulshan Devaiah). Mandar is attracted to the opposite sex in a large way since his childhood and goes on to have multiple relationships with women even after he grows up. Apart from having an affair with a swimmer, Parul (Veera Saxena), Mandar also falls for a housewife Jyotsna (Sai Tamhankar) and ends up having a relationship with her, just to fulfill his sexually desire. Time passes by and Mandar, who now calls himself a player plans to settle down in an arranged marriage. In the course of meeting different women, he realises that none of them are comfortable with his past. This is when he meets Trupti (Radhika Apte), who is a modern, outspoken kind of girl. The fear of loosing her makes Mandar not to disclose his past life to Trupti?

Will Trupti find out about Mandar’s addiction? Will she still be willing to take him as her husband? Forms the rest of the story…

Positive points:

There have been many adult comedies in Bollywood, where the viewers have put in much thought to understand the double meaning dialogues. But the best thing about Hunterrr is that it gives you the privilege of enjoying each dialogue without using your brain. The movie comes out straight. It quite explains what changes boys actually go through, sexually and how a few of them consider sexual desire over emotional needs. Thus creating a nostalgia for many.

Performances wise, the movie sure stands out. Gulshan Devaiah, who has earlier proved his worth, is perfect in his part. The way in which he transitions his character across various age groups is excellent. Actress Sai Tamhankar is absolutely stunning and suits her character to the T. She looks hot and can have any man fall flat for her. Radhika Apte is again brilliant. Her confidence is evident in every scene, especially her dialogue delivery and unique style of emoting.

Negative points:

The fact that it comes out straight and has some in-the-face vulgar dialogues and scenes will not quite be accepted by many. The first half deals only with the protagonist’s sexually attraction and tension across different age groups, which proves to be extremely confusing with all the regular flashbacks. The second half, on the other hand, comes with an addition of love between Mandar and Trupti, but the director fails to explain their attraction properly. It is weird how a guy who is so good at convincing girls, can not get a single girl to marry him. It is also unexplained how Mandar, who does care about feelings, actually falls for a girl only after meeting her ones.

Technical aspects:

Direction by Harshvardhan is original and taken by real life scenarios, which is one reason that people will be able to connect with Mandar’s character. Speaking of technicalities, the movie has some very bad editing. The director takes us back and forth in flashbacks to explain Mandar’s character from his childhood to being a middle aged man, but there is less explaining and more confusion. Apart from that, even the camerawork is shaky and the screenplay is loose in a lot of places.

The music album is rather good. Singers like Bappi Lahiri to Altaf Raja make the the music varied and with superb melodies.

Verdict:

Even though technically the movie does not give much, the star performances and the songs make it a one time watch.
