Even as Bengaluru remains in shock over the death of IAS officer DK Ravi, RTI activist Ganesh has claimed that DK Ravi was soon going to conduct raids against several real estate developers.

"He was a strong person. There are some documents with me against whom the IAS officer DK Ravi was to conducted raids. I hope during investigations no attempt is being made to malign his image as done in the past against an officer who was killed while trying expose a scam. He was looking to go behind several developers," Ganesh said.

He also alleged that the Karnataka government is in a hurry to label his death as a suicide. "He was a compassionate officer who was doing welfare activities for all. There has to a strong reason that police has to come out to prove that he committed suicide. Land lobby is a huge lobby in Bangalore. The government going with pre-notion saying it's a suicide case is not correct. Let the investigation begin first," he said.

Law Minister Sadananda Gowda is set to meet Home Minister Rajnath Singh to demand a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the case.

The issue also rocked the Karnataka Assembly on Tuesday where the Bharatiya Janata Party members demanded a CBI probe to be ordered in the case. They also staged an overnight protest in the Assembly.

Protests marked by sporadic incidents of stone pelting erupted in Kolar district, where Ravi, before being moved to Bengaluru, had served as Deputy Commissioner, taking on sand mafia and striking a chord with people with a pro-poor image. Angry protesters in Kolar stoned the house of local MLA Varthur Prakash and blocked a National Highway placing burning tyres before being chased away by police.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner MN Reddi said that forensically, medically and examination of the situation all point to "prima facie understanding of a suicide." He said Ravi, found hanging from a ceiling fan in his room at his official flat here yesterday, was a "bold officer" and it was natural for people to think he was not a person to have committed suicide. But, he added, "let us wait for the medical report...no single angle will be untouched. Every angle will be covered.
