Gangi Reddy,Arrest

Notorious red sanders smuggler Kollam Gangi Reddy, against whom an Interpol red corner notice was issued, was arrested in Mauritius. The Andhra Pradesh police have been trying to nab Reddy, who hails from Vathuluru in Pullampeta mandal of Kadapa, for over six months now.

Recently, the AP CID had issued a red corner notice to nab Gangi Reddy, who is said to be close to a politician in AP. ‘’We came to know of his arrest but we will be in a position to confirm it once we receive the relevant documents of his arrest,’’ a senior police official told Express.

The state police is expected to receive confirmatory documentary evidence regarding his arrest in the next few days.

Reddy was a key accused in the assassination bid on the then chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu at Alipiri in 2003 but was later acquitted.

In March 2014, the police had named Gangi Reddy as an accused in a major Red sanders seizure near Veldurthi in Kurnool. He was arrested on April 4, remanded to judicial custody and released on bail on May 16 after which he had disappeared.

Considering the security threat to the chief minister, the police were trying to track him down after his escape.

As recent as last month, Badvel police had arrested Guddeti Ramanadha Reddy, a former key aide of Gangi Reddy and 10 others after seizing 49 red sanders consignment. A few days later, an Interpol red corner notice was issued against Gangi Reddy.
