Hyderabad: The government has not issued any instructions to hike property tax in GHMC limits and authorities have been only undertaking reassessment of nursing homes. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said here on Wednesday.

“There is no instruction from the government to hike property tax. Even with regard to VAT, we are plugging loopholes and trying to cover uncovered areas,” the CM told the Assembly.

Referring to MIM Floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, BJP MLA Mr Chintala Ramachandra Reddy and others demand to stop forcible collection and hike in property tax, the CM said during his recent visit to Maharashtra, he was told that the Mumbai Municipal Corporation budget was around Rs 32,000 crore and would get another Rs 4000 crore this financial, raising it to Rs 36,000 crore.

“In 95 per cent cases there is no proper assessment of property tax, particularly with regard to nursing homes and commercial establishments. We will certainly take care of the poor. I will hold a meeting with city legislators to sort out the issue,” he added.

The CM also said minorities including Muslims would get pensions on par with others and also 4 per cent reservations.

Stating there was tremendous response to regularisation plots below 125 square yards for the poor, he said the government would issue pattas to eligible applicants after the MLC polls since there was a poll code on place.

The government had received 1.33 lakh applications for regularisation on payment and received Rs 133.5 crore. “We will also ensure pensions to every eligible person,” he said.
