Most of her films have done well and yet, Lakshmi Menon is not a satisfied actress. And even though she has impressed many, playing the calm, traditional village girl on screen, she is anything but that in reality, she says. Bold, confident and outspoken, Lakshmi says she is planning to quit the industry soon, as she is not happy with the kind of roles being offered to her.
"Most filmmakers in Kollywood bring to me scripts that have me either playing a village girl or a girl-next-door. I am extremely bored essaying the same kind of roles in all my films - it is getting too repetitive. I need a break from this, so I am planning to quit soon," says Lakshmi.
So, won't she be signing any films henceforth? "I may, if I get a strong script where there is some scope of showing my acting mettle. I want to be a performer, and not just another heroine. But even then, I am not sure about it," she says, adding, "As of now, I need to concentrate on my Class XII board exams, as my only goal at the moment is scoring good marks." Lakshmi has also planned out what she wants to do once she passes out of school. "I am planning to do English literature. I may also go for a fashion designing course as it might help me find work of a different kind within the film industry itself, in future."
Ask her whether she will be opting for a Chennai college, and she says, "No, not at all," and adds, "I love my hometown, Kerala, and I wish to stay there all my life." And how has Komban shaped up? "The story revolves around two characters - Raj Kiran and Karthi. It's an entertainer with various commercial elements in it. The film is set in the backdrop of a village," she says. But as she begins to talk about her role, the ennui shows on her face. "Actually, there's nothing much to talk about my role. I am playing a village girl - again. I play Raj Kiran's daughter in the film, and it was great to share screen space with him."
