Music maestro Ilaiyaraaja has sent a legal notice to director Shankar for reusing a song from his yesteryear film in Kappal. Kappal, made by Shankar's production house, has received good reviews and the film is doing well at the Box Office. The makers have reused the Ooru Vittu Ooru Vanthu song from Karagattakaran in the film, for which Ilaiyaraaja had scored the music.

The musician alleges that the song has been used without getting proper permission from him and has demanded compensation for the same. He has even asked the filmmakers to remove the song from the film. The Kappal team, on the other hand, says that they have obtained the rights from the music label that released the album of Karagattakaran and hence, aren't guilty
