Just 2 Blockbusters In 4 Months

5th May, 2015 12:02am     Tollywood      Comments
This year until the beginning of May, Tollywood witnessed a range of high, medium and small budget films feautuing top stars and young heroes. However, none of the films succeeded in making a huge splash at the box-office and most of them ended up as average grossers and some were declared as colossal flops, leaving their producers with losses to the tune of several crores of rupees.

After the releases of a couple of low budget films, the year kick started in style with Kalyanram's Pataas. The film, after releasing amidst high expectations, had a sensational run at the box office and minted upto 22 crores, giving double the profits to its distributors in all the areas. Pataas was declared the first blockbuster of the year.

Then came a flurry of films like Gopala Gopala, I, Temper and S/O Satyamurthy. Even though these films raked in huge moolah at the box-office, the distributors lost heavily due to high pricing and less recovery. The scenario was same for even for numerous low and medium budget films.

Then came Lawrence's horror comedy Ganga on 1st May. The film had high expectations among trade circle and living upto its reputation, it collected more than 9 crores in its first weekend and still looks unstoppable even this week. Trade circles are predicting that the film will end up collecting double the investment and are already terming it as a blockbuster.

This leaves the first four months with only two blockbusters and the trade people are hoping that the summer releases will end the success drought.
