It's been a decade Lagadapati Sridhar forayed into Telugu film industry and the shrewd producer has churned out handful of good films. Evadi Gola Vadidi, Style are only few to name. His upcoming film Krishnamma Kalipindi Iddarini is all set for release on June 19. Besides this, Lagadapati turned one more year older today and celebrating his birthday. Ahead of his film's release and on the eve of his birthday, we managed to catch him up for an interview.
Excerpts:Any Regrets in 10-yr-long Filmy Career?
No, there are no regrets in my filmy career. It's me who take final call on all my projects. I'm glad i'm able to produce few good movies. I see it as a beginning, there's a long way to go. I want to make more movies and continue to entertain audiences.
Commercial or Art-house Films? What's your pick?I don't want to segregate films into commercial or art-house. Any film that manages to garner its investment is commercial film. My top priority is to enthral the audience by making them forget their difficulties in life. At the same time, a movie is a blend of all emotions in right proportions.
Dream ProjectMy dream is to make a film on Abhimanyu, son of Arjuna. Like many, I want to unravel the mystery surrounding Abhimanyu's death in the Kurukshetra. Many know the story that happened in Mahabharatha. But there's more to it and not many know about it. I want to recreate it on silver screen with ensemble cast and massive budget. For the past three years, a team of mine is working on the project but it's not materialising for few reasons. We've stumbled upon few things. I want to sort out them and want to make a movie on it.
Krishnamma Kalipindi IddariniI've been wanting to make a great film on love. When I'm looking forward to explore love, I came across the Kannada blockbuster Charminar. I fell in love with the film. I roped in Sudheer Babu and Nanditha as the pair proved their mettle in Prema Katha Chitram. The combo of Sudheer, Nanditha is expected to rock. As predicted, the response has been great. The film's songs were received well and most of them turned out to be chart-busters. The lead pair did an exceptional job and this film is going to be a classic film on love.
Although we made few changes to suit the tastes of local audiences, we retained the soul of the film. Original director Chandru has been zeroed in on to make the movie. He did his best and we came up with better product than the original. Just like River Krishna, the film will also connects the people of both Telugu-speaking states. Though it's a romantic movie, it has elements to appeal mass crowds.
Upcoming Films:There are three big projects in pipe-line and there are in various stages of pre-production. Once Krishnamma hits the screens, I'll start working on them.
Vikram Sahidev's Launch?Vikram has been doing great job. He acted in films like Race Gurram, Pataas, Rudhramadevi and Krishnamma. He's been getting many offers to turn as hero and we're considering them. If all goes well, he'll be launched as a hero in a year or so.
Any plans to wield Megaphone?I'm contented as a film producer. There's a lot I need to achieve as producer. I want to go places. I've been chalking out plans to produce a mega-budget film in Hindi and want to prove the stamina of Telugu films and Telugu producers. Bollywood is my next target.
Owning a Film Studio in new State? Or Setting up chain of Theatres on cards?I don't have any plans to own a Film Studio. But setting up ultra-modern multiplex theatres are on my mind. Like Prasads, I want to open a multiplex. Probably, it might take some time.
Politics:Since beginning, I'm not inclined towards politics. I've been passionate about films. Now that my brother (Lagadapati Rajagopal) too staying out of politics, I think politics is out of my zone.
