The 62nd Filmfare Awards celebrating the excellence in south cinema were held in chennai on a grand scale. Several luminaries from the film and other spectrum attended the event and the event was anchored by the charming young couple Rahul Ravindran and his singer-wife, Chinmayi. After scoring 11 nominations, Race Gurram did make a huge noise in the final wins, along with Manam, which also won big.
Race Gurram had the distinction of winning its lead pair Allu Arjun and Shruti Haasan the Best Actor and Best Actress awards, while the film also won the best playback singer award for Simha for the song cinema Choopistha Mama. On the other hand, Jagapathi Babu won the Best Supporting Actor award for his villainous performance in Balakrishna's Legend.
The dynamic Manchu lady, Lakshmi Manchu, won the Best Actress in a Supporting Role for the National Award winning film, Chandamama Kathalu. Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas won the Best Debut Male award for Alludu Sreenu. Melodious singer Sunitha won the Best Female Playback Singer for her soulful rendition of Yem Sandeham Ledu from the breezy romantic hit, Oohalu Gusagusa Lade.
Even Manam won big tonight by bagging the coveted Best Film Award, followed by Anup Rubens who won the Best Music Composer award, Chandrabose for Best Lyricist for his heart touching lyrics in Kani Penchina Ma Ammake. Manam continued its winning streak with PS Vinod, who won the Best Cinematographer award.
