Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha starrer "Tevar", which is the first big ticket film of 2015, has started off on a low note.
Considering that it is the first big release of 2015, it was expected to start off well at theaters across the country. But the morning show occupancy rate was lower than expected.
"Tevar" is a typical Bollywood masala film filled with action and romance, but the film failed to impress critics. The film helmed by Amit Sharma has been produced by Sanjay Kapoor and Boney Kapoor.
The film is a remake of Telugu blockbuster movie "Okkadu" starring Mahesh Babu in lead role and thus it was expected to have a good start. Also, the lead actors promoted the family heavily on reality shows as well as on social media.
But it failed to register good occupancy on opening day. The morning shows occupancy was in the range of 30 to 40 percent, according to Koimoi.com.
Since it's a mass entertainer, the film opened well at Rajasthan, National Capital Region and several other north circuits. Even in Mumbai the film opened well and is expected to do well.
The film opened to mixed reviews from critics, but audiences have called it a masala entertainer. So, the occupancy might increase during the evening and night shows.
On the other hand, "Tevar" will have a competition at the box office with Aamir Khan's "PK" still going strong at domestic market. But trade analysts are of the opinion that "PK" has enjoyed its three weeks run and now "Tevar" will dominate the market.
"With regards to the audience, I am sure everybody who wants to watch PK has watched it during these 3 weeks, not just once, but even multiple times and so, Tevar won't have any problem in its run at the box office," exhibitor Akshaye Rathi said.
Meanwhile, with morning and afternoon shows occupancy one can predict that the film will earn in the range of 8 –10 crore on day one.
